Snow Tunnels and Forts

We had so much fun playing in the snow Friday and Saturday. We played out digging a tunnel for the kid's to climb through and then dug a fort with a hole in the top. We headed out and about an hour or so into it Gracie was fussing because she was cold but none of the rest of us were ready to go in so I ran Gracie over to Nana and Papa's house so we could continue with our fun in the snow. It was probably 3 hours later before we were ready to come in. We kept busy digging out the snow fort. We called Evan to come and play for a while before he had to head to Indy with his Mom and Dad for the State wrestling final. We just had so much fun. We even made snow cones, this was Daddy's idea. We made a snow ball(with clean snow of course!), then grabbed a juice box out of the fridge and squirted it into the snow ball, it tasted so good! We ended up using 3 juice boxes because we just couldn't get enough!

Digging out!

We had about 12in. of snow! Not so much really in comparison to what New York got last week, 12ft., but with the way the wind blew it drifted like crazy. We had 3 and 4 foot drifts everywhere. Schools have been cancelled 3 days in a row now. We got going this morning and Shannon headed out to clear the driveway. Problem one, he couldn't even get the truck out of the garage if he wanted. Problem two, the small tractor and bucket wasn't able to move the snow, too deep! Problem three, he had to find a way to get to the road and the drifted snow. First he tried going through the backyard, back up too deep! The entire driveway was packed so he finally had to go through the field down a ways across from a neighbors house to a place he could get to the road. Shannon headed to town to hook on the snow blower. A couple hours later he's back to fill the tractor with fuel and back to town to clean up our parent's drives,(along with several other friends and other that needed help, he's so kind hearted) ours was left till last because we had no place we had to go anyhow. The kids and I played out a little. Aden loved it!! After Shannon got back to do ours and Gracie went down for her nap Aden and I went out to shovel out behind the garage doors where the snow blower couldn't get close enough. Aden had fun climbing all over the 5 and 6 foot piles from where Shannon had moved the snow. Then Shannon and Aden headed back to town to clean up the car dealership, the implement store and the storage building lots. After Gracie woke from her nap her and I headed down to play in the snow with Amy and Olivia. Shannon and Aden got back a few hours later and we ran back into town to pick up the pizza's I had ordered for Shannon for Valentine's Day from Chicago. We've been dying to try this Chicago style pizza ever since we saw it on the Food Network so as a Valentine surprise I had some shipped in. It was delayed due to the weather and the UPS truck wouldn't even bring it out to our house because of the roads and left them for us to pick up at the implement store. We came home and baked our pizzas! They were everything we had hoped for and Shannon loved his surprise(even though he says he doesn't like surprises)! It was a fun-filled day for everyone!

Strep throat, ugh!

Poor Gracie has strep throat! She had a fever a couple different times over the past week but nothing terrible. She had also complained of her throat hurting a few times and had terrible smelling breath but for the most part she acted just fine. I kept putting it off because she really didn't act sick like you would think if someone had strep throat. Man, I feel like a bad Mom. Shannon and I decided to take her to the urgent care after she had gotten up from her nap with swollen lips and face. We got the the urgent care and she was soooo happy, talking with everyone! I was like, really sick huh? I told the staff at the urgent care that I knew they were wondering what she was doing there! Sure enough though, they did a strep screen and it was positive and she had tons of fluid behind her ears. She has antibiotics now so she should be all better soon! Poor thing has a rash all over her body from the strep infection, probably because I waited too long to take her. Boy, I love that girl, she's such a trooper!!!!!

I need my night hat!

Aden said the funniest thing last night. It was time for bed and Aden tells Shannon and I that he needs his night hat! We looked at each other and Shannon said "where would you find such a hat?" Aden said "in the coat closet!" O.K. then! Aden headed to the closet and came back with his striped long hat on his head. He told us it was just like in Twas the Night Before Christmas! He just sat in bed with a big grin on his face in his "night hat"! Very sweet! Can you tell he likes the Twas the Night Before Christmas movie? He is so into clocks and I think it's because of this movie!
